What is Employees' Provident Fund (EPF)?
The Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) is a government-backed retirement savings scheme managed by EPFO. It allows salaried employees to build a substantial retirement fund through monthly payroll contributions from both employee and employer.
How EPF Contributions & Interest Work
12% of your Basic Salary + DA is deducted monthly from your salary into your EPF account.
Your employer contributes an additional 12% matching share into your provident fund account.
Contributions qualify for tax deductions up to ₹1,50,000 under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act.
Interest (currently 8.25% p.a.) is calculated on monthly running balances and credited annually.
Because EPF contribution is a direct percentage of your basic salary, annual salary hikes exponentially accelerate your monthly deposits and final retirement accumulation!
